LOCAL MP WARMS TO ECONOMY RADIATOR COMPANY
Miss Anne McIntosh, MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey, officially opened The Economy Radiator Company’s new offices and warehouse last week.
Michael Wood, MD moved his business earlier this year to a 5,000 square foot warehouse so that the company could treble its capacity. There is further room for expansion at the site in Sessay as the business requires.
Miss McIntosh said: “I was delighted to be opening the new facilities. It is good news for the company and a vote of confidence in Thirsk, Malton and Filey as a centre of enterprise.”
The Economy Radiator Company launched two new products, giving Miss McIntosh the chance to see them first. These are a new easy to use radiator called Simplistique, which is very similar to the Ultra-Slimline radiator but without the integral programming system, and the Vertex radiator which is a much taller radiator offering those with small wall space but plenty of ceiling height an electric radiator solution. There was also a sneak preview at the prototype of the company’s new outdoor heater.
Michael Wood said: “We were thrilled to have Miss McIntosh come and officially open our new offices. We are dedicated to the community and creating local jobs and right now things are really hotting up for us; sales are up month on month and the feedback from our customers is just fantastic.”

RADIATOR COMPANY PROMOTES THE WORK / LIFE BALANCE PERFECTLY
The Economy Radiator Company, has devised an innovative new way of working to ensure it meets customer demand while offering flexibility to its employees.
The company is moving on to a six-day working week during its peak winter months but employees will only work four days a week in summer when demand is lower. Staff will work on a rota basis to ensure a five-days-a-week service to customers is maintained during the warmer months.
Michael Wood, MD of The Economy Radiator Company, says; “Call volumes between September to January are six times higher than during the rest of the year and we need to meet our customers’ needs. The benefit is that our staff have a better work/life balance and get time off to enjoy the summer weather.”
Employees’ salaries will remain the same throughout the year, with only their working hours changing.
Since the company was founded in 2008, Michael Wood, MD and Entrepreneur has seen sales double year on year first to £2.5 million per annum (March 2011) and is well on target to meet sales of £4.5 million by the end of March 2012.

ECONOMY RADIATOR’S MD IS NOT SURPRISED WITH WHICH? ENERGY REPORT
Recently Which? has conducted a big ring-around the energy suppliers and ‘exposed serious failings’. In a third of calls energy companies gave Which? the wrong answer.
To add to this tale of incompetence Which? also found that consumers could be worse off if they changed energy supplier through salespeople they may come across in shopping centres and supermarkets, by up to a staggering £300 a year.
Michael Wood MD, Economy Radiator, is shocked but not surprised by this news, he said, “One thing I always advise anybody who calls my company is that you should never ring an energy supplier to ask about tariffs because you may not be given the best rate available.
“Many of my customers have also echoed the findings of Which?; it’s a saddening reality that we can’t trust these big companies to give us all the information. The best way to check energy tariffs is to use the online comparison sites, UK Power being one I would recommend, always check the rates and try to get to as near 8p kwh for electricity as possible.”

TOP TIPS FOR A WARM HOME
A North Yorkshire-based expert in home heating has issued five tips to help householders keep warm during the current cold snap.
Michael Wood, who is an expert in expense reduction analysis, believes that six out of ten UK householders pay around 30 per cent too much for their electricity, and that around 10 per cent of their yearly spend will be caused by the current cold weather.
“Part of the problem is that people don’t know how to shop around to get the best electricity tariff,” he says. “And then they struggle to know how to use their electric heaters efficiently. This is a real issue during very cold weather and when energy prices are so high.”
“For most people, 80 per cent of their energy is used in the six winter months, 40 per cent in the two peak months and around 10 per cent in the five coldest days.”
Michael’s business, The Economy Radiator Company, is based in Dalton near York. It has grown from a standing start to a £4.5 million turnover in just four years. The company, which has a policy of employing from the local area, has just moved into new, 5,000 sq foot premises, tripling its capacity.
Michael has issued his top five tips to help householders keep warm:
1. Make sure you’re on the right tariff. For electricity you should be aiming to get as close as possible to 8 or 9.5 pence per kilowatt hour (2.5p for gas). Look at comparison sites and switch to the best tariff for you.
2. Don’t automatically use Economy 7 or 10 tariffs. The night rates on Economy 7 or 10 are low but the day rates are correspondingly high to average back what you believe you have saved
3. The most economical way to heat your house (assuming your heating is thermostatically controlled) is to leave the heating on all the time with a four degree temperature reduction at night or when out at work.
4. Regulate your heating intelligently from room to room so that it’s warm in rooms only at times when you need to be in them, each room being set differently.
5. Make sure you have the correct capacity heater for the room you’re heating. Measure the width, length and height of the room and buy a heater that will do the job. An incorrect (too small) capacity heater will use more energy and still not achieve the desired effect.
